As part of the University's Equality and Diversity agenda, the School of Physical Sciences is delighted to welcome Professor Athene Donald of the University of Cambridge to deliver her talk - "Careers Don't Go in Straight Lines".
The event will be held at 3:00PM in the Brunner Lecture Theatre, Department of Chemistry, with refreshments available from 2:30PM.

'The topics of my research career have changed fairly radically over the years. Having started off as an electron microscopist on metals I ended up studying protein aggregation, although I like to believe each step on the way was rational. In this talk I will focus on how physics can be used to study plants in novel ways from innovative electron microscopy methods, to utilising ideas developed in very different areas of materials science by treating plants as a foam. However, towards the end of my career I have found myself largely involved with topics unrelated to research including school education, science policy and gender equality. I will touch on some of these areas too to make the point that careers can take you in unexpected directions.'
