This introductory course acts as a comprehensive and practical guide covering all the fundamentals of gardening.
It also provides a foundation for further learning or training in the field of horticulture, principally through progression on to our other introductory courses and/or the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture.
The course is taught through lectures, demonstrations, and a range of practical activities in the gardens. You will need suitable outdoor clothes for gardening including a waterproof, sturdy boots and a pair of bypass secateurs, in addition to your prefered method of taking notes.
The course covering ten essential topics that form the fundamental knowledge any gardener needs to have:
- What is a plant and understanding their names
- Understanding your garden
- Looking after your soil
- Choosing plants
- Propagation
- Planting and aftercare
- Weeds and maintenance
- Pruning
- Keeping your plants healthy
- Lawns and their alternatives

The course starts on Thursday 26 September. 10 weekly sessions 9.30-12noon.
Who is it suitable for?
18+. There are no formal entry requirements; all you need is an interest in plants. No previous experience needed.

£95 (£85 Members of Ness Gardens).
