About the event

At 70 years old, the NHS is a cherished part of public life. Relatively simple in design on its inception, it is now a vast landscape of independent regulatory agencies, expert bodies, market conditions, funding pressures and growing patient safety concerns. This one-day symposium explores the current challenges facing this important institution, and considers a series of important issues. These include: the role of competition; accountability; the cost of ‘lifestyle’ diseases; the effects of financial crisis and austerity; the ability of existing regulatory and governance arrangements to ensure that services benefit patients; and Brexit.

The event will be taking place in the Foresight Centre in The Gallery.
