Having completed a longitudinal study of language policy on Corsica (funded in part by the AHRC) I am currently working on two projects on the linguistic landscape. The first, in collaboration with Dr Stefania Tufi of the Italian Section at the University of Liverpool, examines the linguistic landscape of Mediterranean coastal towns and cities in France and Italy. The second project analyses France's linguistic landscape from the perspective of revitalising the country's regional languages. This project has been funded by thus far by two Small Research Grants from the British Academy; one for fieldwork in Brittany and on Corsica, the other for data collection on Guadeloupe and Martinique. Dr Tufi and I are also working on a particular theoretical aspect of linguistic landscape research, namely brand names in the public space.
