Dr Jonny Higham is a Lecturer in contemporary processes and dynamics with extensive experience in experimental fluid and granular mechanics, non-intrusive image based measurement techniques and the use of in modal decompositions to real world environmental flows. Jonny is a new academic who joined the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Liverpool joining in September 2018 after his post-doctoral Oak Ridge research fellowship with the United States Department of Energy (DOE). Whilst working with the DOE Jonny worked on a number of diverse, multi-million dollar private projects relating the energy sector. Jonny completed his Ph.D. in 2017 at the University of Sheffield in Civil Engineering defending his thesis “The application of modal decomposition techniques for the analysis of environmental flows”. Previously Jonny completed his M.Eng also at the University of Sheffield in Civil Engineering. Jonny has a number of publications in different many areas and has recently been the first to introduce advanced modal decomposition based techniques to environmental flows, hydraulics and river mechanics. Recently Jonny has published new research questioning the definition of the coefficient of restitution and investigation the onset to chaos in granular flows.
