Dr James Bowen B.A., M.A., Ph.D.

Research interests include the rural agrarian history of the British Isles, landscape studies and local and regional history, ranging between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. Environmental history, specifically climate, weather and sustainability.

I have worked on various themes of English local history including aspects of transport history, rural landscape change and the use of local and regional literary perspectives. My geographical focus has largely been Shropshire, the counties of the West Midlands and the Welsh Borders, however, I have a familiarity with other counties and regions, and remain keen to broaden my geographical coverage.
