Bethany’s research interests include examining inequalities, identities and human-animal relations within rural contexts, specifically farming life. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of York which explores the experiences of women farmers in England to understand the embodiment of farming and the negotiation of gender identities. Her thesis is an ethnographic study which lies across the fields of human geography and rural sociology, comprising of on-farm interviews and observations at agricultural shows.
Bethany is currently working on the British Academy funded project entitled ‘#farming365: Exploring farmers' use of social media and its role in sharing notions of the 'good farmer’.
