Tom Roberts

Thesis title: The Commedia dell’Arte in the English cultural imagination, 1570-1642.

Biography: Tom holds a BA in English from Queen Mary, University of London and an M.Phil in Early Modern History from Trinity College Dublin. In October 2017, he joined the TIDE Project as a PhD researcher. His thesis will assess how the Italian commedia dell’arte manifested in the English cultural landscape between the beginnings of the secular public theatre in the 1570s and their closure in 1642. His wider research interests include document records of extemporal performance, sixteenth-century pamphlet culture, and early modern London’s migrant communities.
