EPSRC – Turing AI world-leading researcher fellowships

These support recruiting talent in the field of AI to the UK, or by retaining leaders currently located in the UK. Funder closing date:  14 Jul 22.  Duration:  up to 5 years.  Funding:  between £3m and £8m funded at 80% full economic cost.  Further information

Horizon Europe – Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships

These are aimed at researchers who wish to carry out their research activities abroad.  Applicants must have a maximum of 8 years experience since their PhD and comply with mobility rules.  Funder closing date:  14 Sep 22. Duration:  European Postdoctoral Fellowships 1-2 years, Global Postdoctoral Fellowships 2-3 years.  Funding:  Living allowance, mobility allowance and if needed family, long-term leave and special needs allowances.  Research, training and networking costs and a contribution to the management of the project are also provided. Royal Academy of Engineering – Research Fellowships and Engineering for Development Research Fellowships

Applications are accepted in an engineering subject area (engineering is defined in its broadest sense).  Applicants must have a maximum of 4 years postdoctoral experience.  Funder closing date:  20 Sep 22.  The call is repeated once a year.  Duration:  5 years.  Funding:  up to £500k including overheads (covers salary and small amount of consumables). Further information  Only 3-4 applications are permitted per institution thus the University runs an internal selection exercise.  (internal candidates can see intranet with earlier deadlines required for selection). 

EPSRC – Postdoctoral Fellowships

These support topics in the field of energy or mathematical sciences. Applicants must hold a PhD or have worked in a relevant field for at least 4 years.  Funder closing date:  Advised submission dates throughout the year based on the EPSRC Theme areas.  Duration:  up to 3 years.  Funding:  no limit.  Further information (internal candidates can see intranet with earlier internal support deadlines).

These support topics focusing on any area of the EPSRC portfolio. Royal Society – University Research Fellowships

This covers all fields of natural sciences, including biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics, but excludes clinical medicine.  Applicants must have 3 to 8 years postdoctoral experience.  Funder closing date:  06 Sep 22.  This call is repeated once a year. Duration:  5 years (with possible further 3 years).  Funding:  Salary (up to £41k in year 1), Research expenses £13k year 1, £11k per year thereafter) Further information

Royal Society – Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowships

This scheme is for those who have a demonstrable need for a flexible working pattern due to personal circumstances, such as caring responsibilities or health issues. Applicants must have no more than 6 years postdoctoral experience.  Funder closing date:  01 Nov 22.  This call is repeated once a year. Royal Academy of Engineering – UK intelligence community postdoctoral research fellowships

These support the promotion of unclassified basic research in areas of interest to the intelligence, security and defence community working in partnership with university research advisors and collaborating with advisors from the intelligence community, and must address one of the selected research topics. Applicants must have no more than 5 years postdoctoral experience.  Funder closing date:  26 Apr 23.  This call is repeated once a year. Royal Society – Wolfson Fellowship

The scheme covers all areas of the life and physical sciences, including engineering, but excluding clinical medicine and is aimed at attracting and recruit internationally outstanding leading researchers and to strengthen research and help build a critical mass of excellence in the UK’s best university departments and research institutions in fields considered to be strategically important by the institution.  Funder closing date:  30 Nov 22.  This call is normally repeated three times a year. Duration:  up to 5 years.  Funding:  Up to £300k available which may be used flexibly by fellow as part of their start-up package to support their research programme and team.  It can be used to cover salary enhancement, research expenses, research assistance, PhD student and other costs.  Further information (internal compulsory application to be confirmed - see intranet).

 

Royal Society – Wolfson Visiting Fellowship

The scheme covers all areas of the life and physical sciences, including engineering, but excluding clinical medicine and provides an opportunity for outstanding international research leaders to undertake a flexible period of sabbatical leave in a UK university or research institution, to foster international collaborative links and enriching scientific research in the host organisation as well as the wider UK science base. Funder closing date:  30 Nov 22.  This call is normally repeated three times a year. Duration:  up to 12 monthsUp to £125k available which may be used flexibly by fellow and can cover bursary for visiting fellow and research expenses.  Further information (internal compulsory application to be confirmed - see intranet).

 

Royal Commission 1851 – Research Fellowships

These fellowships are open to candidates intending to conduct research in any of the physical or biological sciences, in mathematics, in applied science or in any branch of engineering.  Applicants must have no more than 3 years postdoctoral experience. The host institution may not be the same where the candidate’s PhD research was undertaken.  Funder closing date:  19 Jan 23 (forecast).  This call is repeated once a year, and the next call is due to open Oct 22. Duration:  up to 3 years.  Funding:  Salary plus an expense allowance of £6k per year. Further information 

Leverhulme Trust – Early Career Fellowships

Applications will be considered in all subject areas (with a few exceptions).  Applicants must within 4 years of their PhD or have equivalent research experience.  Funder closing date:  24 Feb 23 (forecast).  The call is repeated once a year.  Duration:  3 years.  Funding:  Salary (50% required from School – this needs to be discussed well in advance) and up to £6k a year in research expenses.  Further information
