This scheme provides the most talented early career scientists from underrepresented groups in STEM with research funding and high-quality training opportunities to build a strong base for a successful research career. Applicants must self-identify as being from a Black heritage including mixed Black background and have a PhD by the time funding starts but less than 24 months post-doctoral experience. Royal Society – University Research Fellowships
This covers all fields of natural sciences, including biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics, but excludes clinical medicine. Applicants must have 3 to 8 years postdoctoral experience. Funder closing date: 07 Sep 24 (forecast). This call is repeated once a year. Duration: 8 years (years 6-8 funding subject to satisfactory progress). Funding: Salary (up to £41,675 in year 1) and research expenses up to £90k a year. Leverhulme Trust – Early Career Fellowships
Applications will be considered in all subject areas (with a few exceptions). Applicants must within 4 years of their PhD or have equivalent research experience. Horizon Europe – Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships
These are aimed at researchers who wish to carry out their research activities abroad. Applicants must have a maximum of 8 years’ experience since their PhD and comply with mobility rules. Funder closing date: 11 Sep 24. Duration: European Postdoctoral Fellowships 1-2 years, Global Postdoctoral Fellowships 2-3 years. Funding: Living allowance, mobility allowance and if needed family, long-term leave and special needs allowances. Applications are accepted in an engineering subject area (engineering is defined in its broadest sense). Applicants must have a maximum of 4 years postdoctoral experience.
