About

Personal Statement

Dr Romero’s main interest in postcolonial studies has to do with the representations of the Colonial, Post-Independence/Neo-Colonial experience in Latin American literature. Until now her work has mainly focused on Argentine literature, in particular the novels, but also essay writing, of David Viñas, who was a key figure the country’s post-II World War literary and political movement and is still an active writer, and on Central American literature. Future projects include further work on both these geographical areas, in the first instance probably on the upsurge in short story writing in Central America in recent year, a phenomenon that is highly relevant of key aspects of Postcolonial theory.
