About

Personal Statement

Joe is a colloid scientist (MSci Physics, Bristol, 2011; PhD Physics, Edinburgh, 2015) with interests in 3D Printing, Soft Matter, Microfluidics, and Tissue Engineering. He held prior appointments at Croda (2016), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (2016-2018), and University College London (2018-2023), where he worked on agrochemical formulation, liquid-phase 3D-printing technology, and nanomedicine for targeted drug delivery. Joe started a joint appointment between the Departments of Physics and Chemistry in April 2023.

Some indicative PhD projects that we are looking to host include:
- Engineered Granular Microgels for Neural Tissue Culture
- Robotically Accelerated Design of Microgels for 3D Cell Culture
- Scaffolded Angiogenesis for High-Resolution Bioprinted Vasculature

If any of these interest you, or you have a research project relevant to the group's interests, contact Joe (j.forth@liverpool.ac.uk) directly. In previous years, we've been successful in raising PhD support from industrial partners including Syngenta and Unilever and secured studentships from the Liverpool CDT in Digital and Automated Materials Chemistry and the China Scholarship Council.

We are keen to support fellowship applications for postdoctoral fellows to join the group in the areas of 3D Printing, Soft Matter, Soft Microfluidics, and Tissue Engineering. You can find more information here or email Joe for an informal discussion on possible avenues for support.
