The Analytical Services in the Department of Chemistry are comprised of Solution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, ESI/EI/CI Mass-Spectrometry (MS), Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES), CHN/CHNS-Elemental Analysis (EA), gas and liquid chromatography (GC/HPLC) and some others.

The Department of Chemistry has maintained the analytical facilities for more than four decades. We offer advice, interpretation of data and expertise from its current staffing level of 4 technicians with all activity coordinated by the Analytical Services Scientific Advisor.

Our primary goal is to provide support for our teaching and research programmes; the majority of our analytical services are also available for hire by external academic and industrial users.

Details of individual analytical techniques and description of the services provided can be found on the Instruments & Methods web page.
