Autumn CareerConnect Campaign Success Summary

Posted on: 7 January 2019 in Interview with a recruiter

The new CareerConnect Autumn programme launched on 24 September and welcomed 99 students at the first Recruiters in Residence event. The start of the new academic year marked the launch of CareerConnect, the University’s new employer-led events and engagement programme.

Emma Moore, Head of Careers and Employability explains: “CareerConnect is designed to bring students together with leading employers, alumni and other useful contacts so that they can access the people, the networks and resources they need to forge a successful future after they graduate. The launch was a fantastic success, attracting the attention of thousands of students and showcasing our new approach to integrating career planning and employability at every stage of the student journey.”

However, the success was not merely limited to launch week! The programme featured a combination of high-profile employer-led events where students can meet and network with potential employers. Gillian O’Brien, Employer Engagement Manager, highlights: “CareerConnect was a huge success. We brought together 4,500 students and 181 top graduate employers over 60 events and achieved 100% employer satisfaction.” Career Connect was a roaring success to support the new structure of service delivery though student Career Coaches and the newly-opened Career Studio.

L'Oreal, PwC, Aldi, IBM, Jaguar Land Rover, BAE Systems, Bank of America Meryll Lynch, Unilever, DLA Piper, the Bank of England, Civil Service and Arup  are just some of the organisations who have worked closely with the University this academic year. Over 60 CareerConnect events have taken part during CareerConnect, many of which, including the weekly Recruiters in Residence and daily masterclasses, took place in the Connect zone of the Career Studio, with 99% students satisfied that events met their expectations. Other notable events include:

  • The Big Connect- Combined Careers Fair and conference which focused on engaging students with SMEs and industries that are not normally represented at Careers Fairs such as healthcare, creative and politics.
  • Business, Finance and Law and Science, Engineering and Technology Careers Fairs
  • Meet the Grads social event- which allowed students to network with graduates and give a deeper insight into career paths and further exploit our connections.

The long-term impact of the Autumn CareerConnect programme are highlighted in just some of the success stories noted so far:

  •  7 students were fast-tracked through the L’Oréal recruitment process as a result of their exceptional performances at the L’Oréal Masterclass.
  •  The Hut Group have offered multiple students who have engaged in their events graduate roles.

We are committed to achieving the same positive results for our students as part of the Spring CareerConnect programme, which will launch on 28th January 2019.
