My Virtual Internship at upReach

With employers cancelling and reducing their summer internships this year, opportunities for students were few and far between.

To tackle this growing social mobility crisis, award-winning charity, upReach launched a new range of virtual Internships exclusively for students who don’t have a professional network or prior work experience to fall back on.

Last week I had my final Zoom call for upReach's Professional Internship Programme, where not only had I successfully completed the assessed internship with distinction, but also got shortlisted for the Team Champion Award.

After receiving news that the internship I had been offered a place on had been cancelled due to the pandemic, I was overjoyed to find a new virtual opportunity where I could learn more about the consulting sector and gain exposure to the relevant skills used day to day.

Over the last four weeks I have had the great opportunity of working with employees from various companies, roles and backgrounds. Learning about their experiences and asking for advice has been so incredibly insightful for my career path going forward. Taking on weekly projects from McKinsey & Co, PwC and FactSet, I had the chance of collaborating with people from different backgrounds to put forward a solution to the presentation panel at the end of each week.

It has been a fantastic experience. A huge thank you to everyone who put the internship together, the volunteers who took the time out to guide us with our projects and all of the friends I made along the way.
