I Got Hired: Graduate Transportation Planner at AECOMI

Beth Critchlow is a Class of 2022 BA Geography graduate, now working as a Graduate Transportation Planner at AECOMI.

I heard about the opportunity through a recruiter whilst applying and interviewing for jobs that I now believe would not have been a good suit for my skillset and style of working!

I have now been working in the planning consultancy industry for one year, and I'm continuing to develop my knowledge of transport planning by tackling diverse projects and challenging my abilities.

My favourite experience so far has been exploring the wider workings of the transport planning team through a work rotation, which has allowed me to work across multiple disciplines of transport planning to access my future career path.

The most challenging part of your graduate journey was understanding that mistakes are common at the start of your career, and they are needed to provide goals to work towards.

My advice for for current students and recent graduates:

1. Allow yourself time to breathe and think - there is no pressure to rush into the next step.

2. The employer wants you as much as you want the job - don't settle for less than you deserve.

3. Explore more opportunities than just employment - it is the perfect time to try new things!"
