Juliana Christianson

What are you graduating in?

Social Research MRes

How will you be celebrating your graduation day?

As the graduation ceremony is delayed until Spring, I’ll celebrate in December with my family and boyfriend who have supported me through both my undergraduate and post-graduate degrees (both done at University of Liverpool).

Can you share a highlight of your time at University or Can you provide us with a quote about your time here with us:

A highlight of my time at University has been conducting original research for my dissertation. It was biggest challenge yet – 30,000 words! But it was so rewarding as I was able to pursue the area of study I was interested in and conduct analysis of data that I spent countless hours collating. I was so happy with my feedback on this dissertation too, I was proud that they recognised the originality of my work and that they hoped I continue in this area of research – I hope to someday!

What are your next steps and plans for the future?

I am now on the graduate programme at Wirral Council. I work in the Community Safety team and it’s a really engaging, rewarding job. I’ll also be completing an apprenticeship as part of the graduate programme, so I’ve not finished being a student just yet!

I can’t say I have a single highlight from my four years at the University of Liverpool because the whole experience has been so memorable. Not only have I have made lifelong friends, but also discovered a genuine passion for my subject.

What are your next steps and plans for the future?

I’m hoping to join a social research organisation which produces meaningful research to inform policy making, ensuring the right decisions are made. I would also love to do a PhD one day to further specialise as a social researcher.

Can you share a highlight of your time at University or Can you provide us with a quote about your time here with us:

Throughout my time at the University of Liverpool, I have most enjoyed engaging in and learning from fruitful conversations with other students and teaching staff with similar passions to myself and working on my undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.

What are your next steps and plans for the future?

With a desire for the number of women undergoing detrimental imprisonment and community punishment in England and Wales to be drastically reduced, I am considering progressing to further postgraduate study or entering into employment focused on enacting societal change as my next steps.
