QUASAR Contribution to HB2016

The 57th ICFA Advanced Beam Dynamics Workshop on High-Intensity and High-Brightness Hadron Beams, HB2016, was hosted by the ESS and held in Malmö, 2016 July 3-8.

In the spirit of previous HB workshops HB2016 was an ideal platform for presenting and discussing beam dynamics and needs in commissioning and operation for high-intensity and high-brightness hadron beam machines, covering both linacs and rings in operation and under development for the future.

Participants joined presentations and discussions across several working groups, including beam dynamics in linacs and rings, accelerator systems, commissioning and operation, as well as beam instrumentation and interactions. QUASAR Group leader Prof. Carsten P. Welsch was invited to talk about "Developments in Non-destructive Beam Profile Monitors". In his presentation, he first covered synchrotron radiation-based diagnostics, ionization beam profile monitors and beam induced fluorescence monitors. He then described the developments that are currently being carried out in the Group with regards to a gas jet-based monitor for the HLLHC in detail.

HB2016 was found to be an excellent discussion platform for accelerator experts in view of the particular challenges arising from high energy, high intensity accelerators.
