Liaison Psychiatry Model of Care: CORE24

CORE24 is a National ‘best practice’ model of care for Liaison Psychiatry which seeks to both improve patient care and enable cost savings for the NHS.

Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust (MCNHSFT) is one of the first secondary care Mental Health Trusts in England to implement Core 24 within each of their three Liaison Psychiatry services at: Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust; and Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, with effect from 1 September 2017.

ARISE completed a Service and Health Economic Evaluation of CORE24 which demonstrated that more patients were being seen more quickly and patients were discharged from hospital sooner, thus creating NHS cost savings. These evaluations underpinned the continuation of funding for this service.
