Using science to make sense of shoulders
Dr Fraser Philp is a Lecturer in the School of Health Sciences. He recently won the Dr Tom Shannon Best Paper Award at the 2023 Clinical Movement Analysis Society (CMAS) conference for his work in biomechanics and human movement, specifically shoulder instability and muscle activity in young people. Fraser’s analysis utilised 3D movement analysis and surface electromyography which assesses muscle activity through the skin.

Helen Potter shortlisted for Staff Award 'Partnership of the Year'
Helen Potter from Nursing has been shortlisted for the University Staff Awards in the category of Partnership of the Year. This is for Helen’s work on drug trees, which she has undertaken with a colleague in clinical practice; the work has now been published. Here Helen provides insight into drug trees and how they have helped nursing students categorise and recognise drug names and discuss their mode of action.
