Open Research Community: Experiences with Open Access

13:00-14:00 - Monday 11th November 2024 - Online

Are you confident in your understanding of open access (OA) publishing? Join us for an interactive hybrid session that explores the different OA routes—and what they mean for your research. Through informal discussions and polls, we’ll discuss common barriers and challenges researchers face with open access publishing.

Whether you’re new to publishing or a seasoned researcher, this session is designed to build relationships, enhance your OA knowledge, and provide insights on shaping better support and services. We’ll also share the tools and platforms available at the University of Liverpool to support your journey, from Elements to repositories and the University’s OA webpages.

This will be a conversation between researchers across faculties, this session will help us better understand your needs and empower you to publish OA with confidence.

ReproducibiliTEA special: If I could do just one thing to fix research

10:30-16:00 - Tuesday 24th September 2024 – Eleanor Rathbone Building

We invite people to make 5–20-minute proposals with the title: “If I could do just one thing to fix research…”

Perhaps you want to make a case about pre-registration, data management or statistics? Perhaps you want to make a case about incentives, funding, or precarious employment?

All these things interact with each other, and all could be improved. But if you could do 'Just One Thing', what would it be?

We will then vote for most persuasive case, and winner gets a prize at the end of the day.

If you are interested in making a case, please email Alexis Makin (alexis.makin@liverpool.ac.uk) by September 18th

Open Research Coffee Morning - Understanding Open Research

Are you interested in open research but unsure what it entails? What does open access mean? How do I start a data management plan? What do you mean by "responsible metrics?" How does all this help to increase the impact of my work?

Come along to our next coffee morning to find out!

This in-person event, facilitated by the Open Research Community is targeted at PGRs and those developing their understanding of open research. We welcome researchers across all levels and hope this event provides a safe space to share thoughts and ideas.

Open Research Showcase:

On Thursday 29th February, the Open Research Community hosted its first ever Open Research Showcase event. Our four speakers shared examples of their own work, bringing open research to life. The event was part of the successful Open Research Week, an annual series delivered collaboratively by the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moore’s University, Edge Hill University and University of Essex.

This event provided an opportunity for participants to come together and discuss how Open Research increases the impact of their work. Read all about it in our dedicated blog post.

Open Research Virtual Coffee Morning

Researchers, we need you!

Pop the kettle on, because it's time for another ORC Coffee Morning. We would like to invite researchers, PGRs and anyone else interested in Open Research across all faculties to our coffee morning on Tuesday 12th December at 11:00.

The purpose of this event is to discuss YOUR expriences of Open Research throughout your career. How has Open Research impacted your own projects? How did this impact wider society?
