Boards of Examiners and graduation

Graduation is the culmination of all of your hard work – it’s an important day for us, but most of all, hugely important for you, your family and your friends. We’ve included details about plans for graduation below and outlined details about the Boards of Examiners.

Will the Boards of Examiners change?

The University’s Boards of Examiners are the decision-making bodies for student progression, awards and classifications. There are currently three Boards of Examiners per year (February, May and October), but the frequency will increase to five under the University’s new arrangements with Kaplan from 2 April 2021.

Students who have had their award confirmed by a Board of Examiners and have settled all outstanding fees on their account are ready to graduate.

Students who submit their dissertation on or before 2 January 2021 will be presented to a Board of Examiners in February 2021 and, subject to meeting the academic criteria, can expect to graduate in July 2021.

Students who submit their dissertation on or before 6pm (Central European Time) on 17 March 2021 will be presented to a Board of Examiners in May 2021 and, subject to meeting the academic criteria, can expect to graduate in July 2021.

All future submission deadlines are subject to confirmation.

Will the graduation ceremonies still take place in July and December?

The University hosts graduation ceremonies for all of its graduating students in July and December and online students and their guests are welcome to attend these as part of the University community.

Ordinarily, our graduation ceremonies are held on campus in the city of Liverpool, and our students and their guests are invited to attend in person. We will keep these arrangements under review in connection to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If we are unable to host your graduation ceremony on campus, then we will offer a virtual experience.

Will all students still belong to the University of Liverpool Alumni?

Students who graduate from our online programmes continue to be part of our global community as alumni of the University of Liverpool.

We look forward to welcoming you into our community. As a member of our alumni, you will be able to take advantage of a range of benefits, such as joining our Global Career Advisor Network. Here you’ll be able to connect with leaders and experts within your chosen industry and build an international professional network.

How will students get access to information about Graduation?

Before each graduation, the University will write to eligible students to inform them of the arrangements for graduation.

Any questions or concerns about graduation should be directed to the University’s graduation team.
