The University of Liverpool Management School (ULMS) Alumni team recently hosted the first 'Getting Ahead' event in London on Thursday 7 September featuring an esteemed panel of ULMS graduates who shared their career journeys and insights with guests.

The event gave both graduates based in London and current Year in Industry students, the opportunity to hear from a range of guest speakers from companies such as Deloitte, Virgin Money, Google, Bloomberg, Haysmacintyre and HP.

There was also networking after the panel with fellow alumni and Year in Industry students over refreshments. The panel of experienced alumni shared their top tips on working in London, progressing in their careers, overcoming challenges at work, managing a healthy work-life balance and much more.

Commenting on the success of the event Samantha Riella, Alumni Engagement Officer, said: “The event in London was such an insightful experience for both current Year in Industry students and graduates from the University of Liverpool Management School.

"The event aimed to provide students and graduates with an opportunity to learn from industry professionals and engage in meaningful networking. It was a pleasure to meet all the panellists and attendees. We are looking forward to running many more future events, with a Liverpool event in the pipeline!”

Panellists and attendees of the event also commented:

Khalida Abdulrahim, Product Strategy Lead at Google: “I really enjoyed being a part of the panel and learning from the other panellists. The recent graduates were also really engaged.”

Chloe Stafford, Head of People Strategy, Systems, and Insight at Virgin Money: “It was a great evening chatting with recent University of Liverpool graduates as they start their careers in London. Khalida, Nirav and I shared our stories so far, lessons learnt and top tips.”

Adam Trott, Business Tax Senior at Haysmacintyre: “It was a pleasure speaking with current University of Liverpool Management School Year in Industry students at Holland House. Many thanks to the ULMS Alumni Team for inviting me along and well done for organising an extremely beneficial event for their students - the first of many I hope!”

Will Montague, Partner Business Manager at HP: “It was great to get back in touch with the University of Liverpool by joining a panel of graduates, talking about our experiences of placement, early careers, key takeaways and advising how best to make the most out of the brilliant opportunities they have.”

Neve Cotton, Tax Consultancy Analyst at Deloitte: “I thought the event was a brilliant idea. The networking allowed me to chat with the Year in Industry students based in London individually and give more personal advice too.”

Millena da Silva, Marketing with a Year in Industry student: “Engaging in conversations with alumni not only provided me with invaluable insights into their Year in Industry experiences but also shed light on their journeys returning to university life. The evening presented a splendid opportunity to connect and network with like-minded individuals, forging bonds with fellow students here in London.”
