Management School volunteering day with Liverpool City Region charity: Nugent

As part of National Volunteers' Week, on Tuesday 30 May, the Management School's External Engagement Team donned their gardening gloves and volunteered with Nugent, a charity in the Liverpool City Region that cares for, educates and protects vulnerable children, young people and adults through schools, care homes and community and social work services.

Slathered in factor 30 and 50 sun cream the team proceeded to completely transform an overgrown garden area into an area that can now be used as a vegetable patch.

This took place at a Nugent site called The Orchards in Billinge, a cluster of homes that provide supported living to individuals with learning difficulties to enable them to build friendships, develop skills and improve their quality of life.

Organised by Denise Wright, Executive Education and CPD Officer at ULMS, the team consisted of Hazel Kennedy, Kate DaltonRob Hannah and Aoibhinn Nic Aindreasa.

Commenting on the success of the day, Denise said “It was inspiring to see and hear first-hand about the amazing support that Nugent is providing to people in need at The Orchards.

"It was great working as a team, knowing that the vegetable patch we created will be used by the residents to learn to grow and cook their own veg. Huge thanks to Keith Wilde, Head of Communities at Nugent, for the wonderful support and Fundraising Manager Ainsley Briscoe for making it happen.”

As well as receiving thanks from Nugent's Chief Executive, Joanne Henney, for the hard work of the team, Ainsley Briscoe said “Thank you, Denise, Kate, Hazel, Aoibhinn and Robert! What an amazing job you have done too!

"All of your support is going to make a huge difference in the lives of our beneficiaries. We can’t thank you enough!”
