The Entrepreneurs’ Monthly Meet-Up is a University HEIF-funded initiative that the Brett Centre for Entrepreneurship run in collaboration with six colleges and universities in the Liverpool City Region.

The aim of the Meet-Up is to connect and expose both entrepreneurial students and graduates to the very best entrepreneurs and independent businesses in the city. The Entrepreneurs’ Monthly Meet-up runs eight times across the academic year (October-May) with November’s Meet-Up coinciding with the University of Liverpool’s Global Entrepreneurship Week offer.

The second meet-up for this academic year took place on Thursday 17 November in The Academy restaurant based in Tradewind Square off Bold Street. The venue is a beautiful training facility that the City of Liverpool College runs for its School of Hospitality students to gain commercial experience as part of the courses it provides thus supporting individuals in to careers within the best food and hospitality establishments in the industry.

This recent Entrepreneurs’ Monthly Meet-up also ran in collaborations with the Help to Grow and Growth Catalyst programmes in the University of Liverpool Management School which consists of local SME leaders and entrepreneurs.

During the most recent event, the HR Director for the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool, Christine Henney, spoke with attendees and SMEs about her 40+ year career in the hospitality sector which included setting up and running a number of consultancy businesses for the hotel industry.

In addition to this, participants engaged in lots of informal networking with free food and refreshments which students of the Culinary and Hospitality department cooked and severed. This included the development of a cocktail specifically designed for the day titled: ‘The Entrepreneur’.

December’s Entrepreneurs Monthly Meet-up is being held on Thursday 15 December from 5pm-7pm in Frederiks on Hope Street. At the upcoming event, attendees will hear about setting-up successful spaces within the hospitality sector and plans for the future development of its Frederiks businesses.

Commenting on the recent Entrepreneurs’ Monthly Meet-up Richard Leighton, Entrepreneur in Residence in the University of Liverpool Management School, said:

“We were really pleased with the Entrepreneurs Monthly Meet-up for November that The Academy restaurant in the City of Liverpool College kindly hosted 70+ attendees. The participants all seemed to really enjoy it, creating a really nice and fun atmosphere for individuals to learn and gain new contacts.

“Holding it in The Academy restaurant this time around offered a new dimension to the Monthly Meet-up in that City of Liverpool College students were organising it and cooking/serving the food and refreshments as part of the courses they study. We also invited SME’s off the University of Liverpool Management School’s two support programmes so this also added a new experience for the student and graduate entrepreneurs to network with local business leaders.

“Both elements really seemed to add value to the Monthly Meet-up and enhance the experience for the attendees.”
