Ron Collins

In July 2017, Ron graduated with an MSc in astrophysics from the University of Liverpool. His final year project focused on developing reconstruction algorithms for radiation detectors.

Currently, he works on the VIDARR project for monitoring nuclear reactors with anti-neutrinos, a project that is supported by JCS Nuclear Solutions Ltd, and the UK's National Nuclear Laboratory. As noted by the IAEA, “Anti-neutrino detectors have unique abilities to non-intrusively monitor reactor operational status, power and fissile content in near real-time, from outside containment.” As part of his PhD he is building a comprehensive Monte-Carlo model for anti-neutrinos from reactors, and using machine learning and techniques from big data do identify their interactions.
