The standard kit available in the PC Scheme:
- Hybrid working kit - the package includes a standard laptop, suitable for running the vast majority of University software, plus a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and where required, a webcam and headset.
Desktop computers are available as an alternative, if required.
Further options are available to eligible staff but incur additional charges payable by the department. These options include:
- Workstation - Powerful computer for more graphical/computational tasks.
- Tablet and hybrid laptops - touchscreen tablets, laptops that detach or fold to become tablets.
The equipment is "enterprise" specification - it is far higher build quality than items aimed at the home consumer market.
Provision of PCs outside of the scheme
If you require a computer outside of the scheme, for example, to equip a non-core funded member of staff, or to a site in a shared location such as a reception area, you can view the price list and order directly from DTP.
Why purchase computers through IT Services?
University staff should endeavour to always use computers recommended by IT Services. If you buy alternative equipment, it is likely you could experience compatibility and security issues. You would also lose out on the enhanced support service for standard University equipment. Repairs would be via a return to base policy with your supplier which can incur delays.
