From Pandemic to Business Economics by Adriana Moreira

I have followed the Go Higher page for some time and never seemed to find the right time to apply, there was work and kids and all sorts of excuses to delay my return to studies. Being a mature student was also a cause of great anxiety.
When the pandemic hit and we were faced with adapted schedules and working from home, I decided that it was time to go ahead and focus on my education with the intent of pursuing a path in psychology.
However, enrolling in the GH at a time when all was adapted to online classes and exams, was overwhelming, there was no “human touch” and it felt very lonely at times, to be honest, there were many days when I believed I was not going to make it, I wanted to give up and go back to my ‘normal’ life. But everyone was always extremely supportive, especially Claire and Sharon who always had a word of encouragement. There was also a strong sympathetic bond with other GH mature students and at times, we worked as a lever, lifting each other up.
After all the tears and learning, I recognise that the GH has equipped me with skills that apply to all aspects of my life, both personal and professional. It has also shown me that psychology is not for me and that I am well better at numbers. Therefore, I ended up applying for business-related courses and was accepted for all 5 offers after applying for undergraduate degrees. I am now, proudly, progressing to my 2nd year at Business Economics at the University of Liverpool.
