History of recordkeeping

My research interests lie in the historical development of record keeping, and the legal and social contexts of the use and re-use of written records. My research has addressed the effect which the development of manorial record keeping had on the late medieval English peasantry, examining the role which the written record played in peasant land tenure, conveyancing and litigation in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.
