Dr Sally Sheard gave the plenary lecture at the Society for the Social History of Medicine’s international biennial conference at the University of Oxford on Thursday 10th July.

Over 250 delegates, scholars of health and medicine’s histories from around the globe, heard Dr Sheard speak on the subject of ‘Quacks, Clerks, Ministers and Spads: The Governance of British Health’, which drew from her recently published biography of Brian Abel-Smith, The Passionate Economist (Policy Press, 2013), and from her new major research project on health policy and governance in Britain since 1948.
