LGBT History Month

Gay people have been largely written out of history and their lives, experiences and achievements go largely unrecognised in traditional narratives of world events.

The School of Histories, Languages and Cultures has previously sponsored keynote lectures during LGBT History Month (February). Themes have included  'Why Europe is Lesbian and Gay Friendly (and why America never will be)?' and 'A Special Problem: History, Memory, and Lesbian Lives in Two World Wars'.

Often attracting hundreds of people, these open public events seek to re-examine histories we thought we knew and share new understandings of gay and lesbian history and culture with a wide audience.
