Stefano Toffolo (BA Hons Accounting 1986) speaking to students

Students at the London campus gained a valuable insight into a career in the finance industry when they met Accounting alumnus and Managing Director at Credit Suisse, Stefano Toffolo.

At the ‘Careers Insight’ session, which aims to give students advice and support on entering their chosen profession, Stefano (BA Hons Accounting 1986) spoke about his early career as an auditor and a chartered accountant, before he moved on to roles in operations and compliance functions in London and at Credit Suisse.

He encouraged the MSc Accounting and MSc Finance and Investment Management students to take risks and take the difficult jobs, treasure colleagues who can make things simple, and be confident in and rely on your team. He also commended the Accounting MSc students on their choice of course, saying that accounting is the DNA of business.

Stefano said of his talk: “It was a pleasure to be able to offer some advice on getting ahead to students from my old University. We went for a tour of the London campus afterwards and I think it’s great to have a little bit of Liverpool located so close to the City.”

One of the Accounting students in the audience, Xiaojun Zeng, said: “Stefano was honest, funny and gave invaluable insight into a career in finance that was extremely helpful and left me challenged but optimistic for the future!”
