Lily’s story: “Thank you for changing lives and making Liverpool a more inclusive place”
The Student Fund exists to ensure that students of every background can come to Liverpool and make the most of their time here – so they can go out into the world and make a difference. From providing emergency grants in times of unexpected financial hardship to bursaries that ensure income doesn’t affect opportunity, your support is changing lives.
Third year Sociology and History student Lily is a recipient of the Liverpool Bursary and is making the most of all the opportunities Liverpool has to offer. Please read on to hear from Lily about the impact of your support:
“Receiving the Liverpool Bursary took a lot of financial burden away and pressure which meant that I could spend more time focussing on my studies. It also made me feel supported by the University, as they had recognised the importance of financial help. If I didn’t receive this funding, money would have been a big worry of mine and I would have struggled, I would have had to work more hours and maybe even drop out, I’m really grateful to have received the Bursary.
The highlight of my time at University so far has been meeting new people and embracing the opportunities that have come with starting at Liverpool. For example, my job raising money for the Student Fund was really fulfilling, allowing me to gain confidence when speaking to different people and learning about their experiences. I like telling my friends and others about how alumni and friends are helping us students. I feel like I’ve come full circle, I remember in my first year we were fundraising for Passport to Possibilities, which provides students with the opportunity to access fully-funded summer study abroad, something that they may miss out on due to financial or social barriers. I was then truly able to experience this in the summer with my trip to America, this was another highlight.
Thank you so much for allowing me to have the experiences I’ve had. Your support has enhanced my student experience and allowed me to focus on my studies. I have been able to take up new opportunities that have come my way and I am so grateful to have been provided with these.
