Elevating Student Skills

Our very own MRes student secure spot on competitive training programme before saying goodbye.

Megan Lamond has just completed her MRes project with the EATC4Children in Liverpool and has since secured a place on the very competitive NHS Scientist Training Programme, starting in September 2023. She has written about her experience.

“Over the last year I have undertaken an MRes research project at Alder Hey’s Institute in the Park under the guidance of Dr Louise Oni and Dr Andrew Chetwynd. My project focused on IgA Vasculitis, a condition which causes inflammation of the blood vessels and potentially results in chronic kidney disease. By studying the patient’s urine, my aim was to assess the possibility of identifying potential indicators of kidney inflammation and to track its progression over time.

I have been fortunate to have been given numerous opportunities throughout my year here; from helping to conduct a systematic review (looking into the current role of dried biofluid micro-sampling) to recruiting patients in the hospital, for the study. As a result, I have developed numerous skills and certainly grown in confidence. I believe that these experiences, have been crucial and have enabled me to achieve my next ‘goal’ – the position of trainee clinical scientist (vascular) with The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital Trust.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here with the EATC4Children and couldn’t have asked for more welcoming and friendly people to work with. They have provided invaluable support and guidance throughout. I will certainly miss everything about working here!”
