What is two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication (2FA) provides an additional layer of security beyond a username and password.
It is commonly used for online services such as banking, Microsoft, and Google accounts, and works by having more than one method of confirming your identity. For example, by using a mobile app or text message sent to a trusted number that you have enrolled with the service.
We have partnered with industry experts at Duo Security to implement two-factor authentication.
It is a really simple process to enrol your mobile and to use Duo two-factor authentication to access services. You get the smoothest experience if you download the Duo Mobile app, but you can opt to use SMS text messages if you prefer.

When is it happening?
Duo two-factor authentication had its first successful launch as part of the Remote Teaching Centre Service in October 2020. It was then introduced for CoreHR in December 2020 and to Apps Anywhere and the VPN service January 2021.
Two-factor authentication will be added to further key services during 2021. We will tell you when we plan to introduce it to each system so that you are prepared for the change.
