Alternative agencies in architecture: listening to archival silences

A talk by Chater Paul-Jordan as part of SLD week

Tuesday 26th April 5.30 pm via ZOOM

Please register here in advance for this meeting via Zoom

Introduced by Kudzai Matsvai lead of LSA student group BLAC

Chater will deliver a recital of his article, "This Dilemma": Collecting and constraints at the RIBA, before unpacking the issues that archival silences raise in understanding the role of women, POC and queer people – those often overlooked by the canon – within architecture. In this, Chater will explore not only those immediate issues raised by his research but also reflect on the process of the research itself and the questions it raises for further enquiries.

Short speaker bio: Chater Paul Jordan is a researcher in the visual arts, architecture, and history with a particular focus on postcolonial cultural experience and decolonial theory. He has recently taken part in research projects at Christ’s College, Cambridge, investigating the legacies of enslavement at the College; and with the RIBA Collections, exploring the shaping of the Collection to consider what absences and silences they might be defined by.

Chater studied History of Art at the University of Cambridge, having previously taken a course in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins. As well as partaking in research projects, he is also working at the London School of Architecture.
