In 2014  Davide Rapp participated as a contributor in the 14th International Architecture Exhibition - Fundamentals (Biennale Venezia, 2014) with ‘Elements’, a 32 minutes long montage of short architecture-related clips specifically conceived for the exhibition ‘Elements of Architecture’ curated by Rem Koolhaas, the Office for Metropolitan Architecture and the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Biography

Davide Rapp (1980), Video Artist. Architect and Ph.D in Interior Design at Politecnico di Milano, he works across the fields of architecture and cinema producing mixed-media installations, movie montages and video-essays. In 2014 he participated as a contributor in the 14th International Architecture Exhibition - Fundamentals (Biennale Venezia, 2014) with ‘Elements’, a 32 minutes long montage of short architecture-related clips specifically conceived for the exhibition ‘Elements of Architecture’ curated by Rem Koolhaas, the Office for Metropolitan Architecture and the Harvard Graduate School of Design. In 2016 he participated as a contributor in the 3rd Istanbul Design Biennial with ‘Fictional Humanisms: A Critical Reportage’, a video installation that enables visitors of the Biennial to encounter the ‘residents’ of a series of architectural short films. In 2017 he collaborated with OMA on the book “Palermo Atlas”, an urban investigation about the city of Palermo that was commissioned by Manifesta for the 12th edition of the European nomadic biennial. In 2018 he extensively collaborated on “Open Archive: Almaty”, the first exhibition hosted by the Tselinny Center of Contemporary Culture in Almaty, Kazakhstan. In 2019 he was selected as a participant in the Art Quake Kyoto Creativity Biennale with “The Corridor”, an experimental tribute to the labyrinthine architecture of the Overlook Hotel from Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining”.

He is currently working on the immersive installation titled “Montegelato”, a mixed-media work that combines cinema and landscape using new digital forms of representation. His movie montages and video-essays have been exhibited and screened at many international movie festivals (Kinolikbez Saint-Petersburg, Film Fest Ghent, Architecture Film Festival London, Festival Internacional de Cine Las Palmas De Gran Canaria, Milano Design Film Festival). Milano Film Festival hosted his first retrospective in 2016 and Cahiers du Cinéma included his video experiements among the mont interesting video-essays online. He has lectured in several Universities in Italy (Politecnico di Milano, Domus Academy Milano, NABA Milano, IED Cagliari, Università degli Studi di Genova) and abroad (Architectural Association School London, Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle). He teaches interior design at Polytechnic of Milan and exhibit design at Università degli Studi di Genova.He has been published in international magazines such as Cahiers du Cinéma (Paris), Architectural Review (London), Domus (Milano), Abitare (Milano), Elle Decor (Milano) and Icon Design (Milano). He is Founder and Creative Director of the creative agency based in Milano ‘-orama’.
