CertAVP Synoptic Exams: Important Information

Published on

The University of Liverpool will no longer be delivering CertAVP synoptic examinations, the assessment required for those completing a designated CertAVP.

As a result of stakeholder feedback, the RCVS updated its policy in 2024 for the synoptic examination to promote consistency across UK providers. However, because these policy changes no longer align with the University of Liverpool’s assessment policies, the University has made a decision that it will no longer offer the synoptic examination. As the RCVS already hosts some synoptic examinations, it has been agreed that future candidates will be able to sit these exams with the RCVS instead.

CertAVP modules delivered by the University of Liverpool remain fully accredited by the RCVS and are not affected in any way by this decision.

The RCVS is planning to introduce a year-round delivery model with synoptic examinations scheduled (online and / or in-person) throughout the year, to maximise flexibility for candidates. If you are already planning to sit a synoptic exam this summer / autumn, these will go ahead as expected (with the RCVS). Both the University and the RCVS would like to take this opportunity to reassure you that there shouldn’t be any change to your experience as a candidate. The format, standards and requirement for the synoptic examinations will remain the same and existing examiners have been invited to continue in their role for the RCVS exams.

To register your interest to sit the synoptic exam, or if you need any further information, please see the RCVS website page on synoptic assessment or contact the RCVS directly on synoptic.exams@rcvs.org.uk
