From September 2023 all modules will be reducing from 16 weeks to 12 weeks

Published on

From September 2023 all modules will be reducing from 16 weeks to 12 weeks duration, with the three terms that modules run following a more traditional pattern, with increased breaks between periods of study. There is no change to module size in terms of the content and topics being covered, the number of credits or recommended overall study time in a module. The price of the modules will also remain the same.

In many 10-credit CertAVP modules there are also changes to the assessment load, most commonly being the removal of one assessment piece, in order to reduce the overall assessment load of completing a certificate. Where changes to the assessment have been made, the same learning outcomes are assessed by the new assessment strategy, and all changes have been approved by the RCVS.

What this means for you, is that the content, teaching and assessment has been condensed into a shorter period, meaning that there will be slightly increased weekly expectations for study, from 6.25 hours a week to approximately 8 hours a week for a 10-credit module (overall suggested study hours for a 10-credit module is 100 hours), but with a greater period off between each module.

The new term dates are in the table below:

Hopefully everyone will see this as a positive thing, with increased time off between modules, allowing longer breaks between study, especially over the busy periods such as Christmas and summer.
