Reporting an incident of harassment or bullying

We are committed to promoting diversity and equality, and providing a supportive and inclusive environment on campus for all our students to live, study and work. Here you will find information for reporting an incident of bullying or harassment, and information on how to refer as well as advice on what to do if immediate help is needed.

We take a firm approach to dealing with actions that negatively impact the safety and wellbeing of our community. It may feel daunting to report any incident but we will support you through the reporting process.

In need of immediate help or safety

If you are in immediate danger or are seriously injured call 999.

If you are on campus and feel unsafe, call campus support (security) on 0151 794 2222 or go to your nearest university building and ask someone to phone campus support for you. Do not intervene in any situation if it is not safe to do so. Do not put yourself at risk.

How to report an incident

You can report any incident through our online platform, Report + Support.

We understand that reporting an incident can be daunting, so you can choose to report anonymously.

Report + Support can be used to report incidents of:

  • Discrimination
  • Misconduct
  • Hate crime
  • Harassment
  • Domestic abuse
  • Sexual assault.

How to report

You can report any incident to the University through Report + Support. Once you make a report a wellbeing advisor will contact you and discuss reporting options with you. All information will be treated sensitively and confidentially.

If the perpetrator is another member of the university community you can make a complaint that will trigger an investigation. Further information on the University's complaints process is available on the student complaints policy and procedure page. You can speak to a wellbeing advisor about this option.

If you don’t want to make a formal report or to make a complaint you can still provide anonymous information through Report + Support. This information is still useful because it can alert us to an issue that we may be able to address.

The Report + Support webpages also include a series of support articles and advice for people who are experiencing any of the issues identified above or who are supporting someone else who has.
