Do I need long term therapy?

The purpose of therapy is to gain insights and work towards making changes in your life. This is not a quick or easy process and it can often be very challenging. It’s a dynamic rather than a passive experience in which you will be expected to fully engage and work hard. So it’s important to decide if you are ready for this.

If you are offered long term therapy, you will be expected to implement the learning and insights that you have gained from your single session first. You will have at least a six to eight-week gap between a single session and any further intervention to allow you to put into practice anything that has been discussed and to process your insights and experience before you would be ready for further therapy.

When you start long term therapy you need to be in a safe and stable position so that you are ready to address difficult issues in your life. That’s why it’s really important to choose the right time for you to access therapy. It is expected that you make a serious commitment to the process as making changes requires hard work, honesty, commitment and personal responsibility. You will be expected to attend regular sessions at the same time every week

Below is a video that will help you think about how to prepare for longer-term therapy if this is offered.
