Other Funding Opportunities

Other funding opportunities may also be available. We are keen to hear from prospective postgraduate research students with an interest in pursuing doctoral research in any area of sociology, particularly those aligned with the research specialisms of our staff group within the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology. We are especially keen to hear from applicants with a good undergraduate degree and a Masters degree in sociology, social policy or criminology, or a relevant discipline.

Students are funded from a variety of sources including self-funded, Government sponsorship or via competitive Research Council studentships (see above). The University of Liverpool has several competitive Scholarship opportunities to fund postgraduate PhD research, including the Duncan Norman Scholarship (funding open applications) and the John Lennon Memorial Scholarship (funding students from Merseyside).

Prospective students applying to study a PhD within the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology may also wish to consider the ways in which the three research clusters - Centre for Ageing and the Life Course, International Criminological Research Unit (ICRU), Liverpool Sociological Research Cluster (LSRC) - may help enhance their research proposals.

To search for the possible funding opportunities best suited to you, visit the Universities PhD fees and funding page for a comprehensive summary of relevant funding opportunities, scholarships, bursaries and awards being offered by the University and external awarding bodies.
