QUASAR Group leader Prof. Carsten P. Welsch has just come back from visits to our collaboration partners LMU in Munich and KIT in Karlsruhe. Prof. Katia Parodi, who holds a chair in medical physics at LMU, kindly gave a tour of their impressive laboratories and presented her newly recruited OMA Fellow who will start in September. She also invited Carsten to talk about ‘Optimization of Medical Accelerators through international Collaboration’. In his hour-long presentation, he gave an overview of the research and training plans of this new European initiative and asked institute members to actively benefit from and contribute to the network.

In the following week, Carsten and Alexandra from our EU Project TEAM visited long-standing collaboration partner KIT where they made preparations for a promotional video highlighting the ANKA facility and its contribution to the European Design Study EuroCirCol. Carsten was also invited by institute director Prof. Anke-Susanne Mueller to present QUASAR activities in beam instrumentation R&D in a talk entitled ‘Development of Advanced Diagnostics for Science and Society’.
