Dr. Ralph Fiorito, Senior Marie Curie Fellow in the QUASAR Group, visited Royal Holloway University of London on 12th -13th November 2014 at the invitation of Dr. Pavel Karataev of the John Adams Institute and the Department of Physics. He delivered a seminar on ‘Advanced Optical Diagnostics for Charge Particle Beams’ on 12th November and had a series of highly productive discussions with members of the Accelerator Group at RHUL to discuss potential collaborative research topics, as well as accelerator facilities and manpower requirements for joint experiments at RHUL, CI, CERN and KEK Japan.

During his visit Dr. Fiorito also joined Dr. Karataev in a conference call with CERN to discuss ODR experiments in progress there. He also visited the laboratory facilities of RHUL and discussed possible applications of laser wire monitor monitors and the THz facilities at RHUL for experiments of mutual interest. The meetings are expected to result in the selection and advancement of a short list of R&D topics for collaborative research and plans for experiments at KEK, CERN, RHUL and CI. For this purpose Dr. Karataev has been invited to come to CI in January to continue discussions and visit the accelerator facilities at CI, such as ALICE and VELA where joint diagnostics experiments might be done.
