1 - Activate your University Computing Services account if you have not already done so
If you have not already done so, you should activate your University Computing Services account (username@liverpool.ac.uk) as soon as possible. This is the account used to access the University Library and so it is likely that you have already activated this.
If you attempt to activate an account that has already been activated then you will encounter an error.
If you have already activated your account but forgotten your password then you may reset this online.
Please note that you will require your University Student ID (a nine digit number) and not your Laureate Student ID ('H' followed by eight digits - e.g. H00012345) to activate your account or reset your password.
An activated account is required for you to:
- Access your University email account (@liverpool.ac.uk);
- Continue using Microsoft Office 365 and access your University OneDrive;
- Sign into the portal for any Microsoft Office applications you have installed;
- Access the University Library content online;
- Use Apps Anywhere to access a wide range of software and your M drive;
- Access your M drive, which provides an additional 20GB of secure and fully backed up individual file space and is accessible by a number of means;
- Use Two-factor authentication with Duo Security, which provides an additional layer of security beyond a username and password and will be required for an increasing number of applications.
Your University Computing Services account will be used to access the Kaplan virtual learning environment.
Please refer to the Computing Services website for further information on managing your account. The online programmes section of the University Website also provides a useful guide on activating your Computing Services account.
2 - Start using your University email account and save any messages from your Laureate provisioned email account (@online.liverpool.ac.uk)
From the 2 April 2021 you will no longer be able to access your @online.liverpool.ac.uk email account provisioned by Laureate Online Education. You are encouraged to start accessing your University email account (@liverpool.ac.uk) with immediate effect, as this will be the primary means of communicating with you about your continuing programme of study or graduation arrangements.
As you will lose access to any messages sent or received using your @online.liverpool.ac.uk email account after the 2 April 2021, it is essential that you make arrangements to save any messages that you may require after this date. The easiest way is to connect to both mailboxes in Microsoft Outlook and then either move or copy the required messages from your @online.liverpool.ac.uk account to your @liverpool.ac.uk account.
3 - Start using your University Computing Services account for Microsoft Office 365 and download any content required from your Laureate provisioned OneDrive
From the 2 April 2021 you will no longer be able to access Microsoft Office 365 using your @online.liverpool.ac.uk account provisioned by Laureate Online Education. You will lose access to any content stored in the OneDrive associated with this account and so it is essential that you make arrangements to download any content that you may require after this date. It is recommended that you save this content to your University OneDrive or M drive.
Your University Computing Services account (username@liverpool.ac.uk) will enable you to continue accessing Microsoft Office 365, including a new instance of OneDrive. However, it is not possible for any content to your Laureate provisioned OneDrive to be migrated across to this new instance and you must do this manually.
When transferring files from / to OneDrive please do not close your browser until the download / upload is complete and is marked as such. Do not remove any local copies of files until you have checked they are safely stored in your OneDrive.
If you have installed any Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Word or Outlook) you will need to use your University Computer Services account (username@liverpool.ac.uk) when you are next prompted to sign into the Portal, in order to verify that you are still a member of the University and therefore eligible to use the software.
4 - Save a copy of any work or material required from the Laureate Blackboard Virtual Learning Environment
From the 17 March April 2021 you will no longer be able to access any content in the Laureate Blackboard virtual learning environment. You should save a copy of any work or material you want to keep from your taught, dissertation, pre-thesis or thesis modules to your University OneDrive or M drive. In line with the University’s Research Data Management Policy, any research data should be stored on your University M drive.
If you are expecting to transition to the University’s new arrangements with Kaplan Open Learning part way through your master’s dissertation or doctoral thesis:
All active master’s dissertation and doctoral thesis modules in the Laureate Blackboard VLE will close for archiving at 6pm Central European Time on the 17 March 2021, and you will not be able to access the content after this date. The new classrooms will open in the Kaplan virtual learning environment from the 6 April 2021 and you will be provided with an archive copy of all discussion board postings and attachments from your Laureate Blackboard virtual learning environment module. You will be granted an automatic three week extension to compensate for any time lost due to the outage of dissertation or thesis modules between these dates.
