Miriam Allott Series - 2013-2014

During its first year of events, the Miriam Allott series featured many award-winning writers as well as emerging voices in the international literary scene. Throughout the series, the Centre for New and International Writing was able to host writers from diverse locations such as India, South Africa, Germany, and America. Vahni Capildeo and Karthika Nair

In April 2014, three international poets read from their powerful work which extends the tradition of English language poetry into the 21st Century. Katharine Kilalea (South Africa), Vahni Capildeo (Trinidad), and Karthika Nair (France/India) each read a selection of their work, and answered questions from the audience. Sujata Bhatt and Michael Augustin

Several weeks after Kilalea, Capildeo and Nair delivered their memorable performances, the Miriam Allott Series was lucky enough to host two award-winning poets, Sujata Bhatt and Michael Augustin, both currently living in Germany. The Festival of Ideas: Poetry and War

As part of the Festival of Ideas, the Centre for New and International Writing hosted the 'Poetry and War' event, featuring the esteemed poets Carolyn Forche, Brian Turner and Ilya Kamnsky. Footage from the even an be found here.
