MSc Operations and Supply Chain Management welcomes guest speakers
Last week, the MSc Operations and Supply Chain Management programme at the Management School welcomed two guest speakers who shared theoretical and practical insights with our MSc students.
Craig Shaw, Operations Director at Sure Energy Solutions, served as the first guest speaker as part of the programme’s Strategic Operations Management module where he covered the following key areas:
- 4 D’s Framework: He delved into the Direct, Design, Deliver, and Develop framework, elucidating its real-world application in business environments.
- Resilience for SMEs: He explored strategies for small and medium enterprises to exhibit resilience in the face of challenges like the unforeseen events brought about by Covid, turning adversity into opportunity.
- ERP System Implementation: He discussed the adoption of an ERP system, detailing the journey from a traditional paper-based organisation to a data-driven company.
Additionally, during the previous week's lecture, facilitated by Dr. Hossein Sharifi and Dr. Ali Taghizadegan, the students engaged in a Beer Simulation Game provided by Harvard Business Publishing to illustrate the Bullwhip effect in Operations and Supply Chain Management.
To enhance the competitive and learning environment, Sure Energy Solutions generously sponsored three trophies and Amazon vouchers for the top three winning teams. Consequently, at the conclusion of the lecture, Craig, accompanied by lecturers Dr. Ali Taghizadegan and Dr. Hossein Sharifi, presented the trophies to the winning teams.

The second distinguished guest speaker Steven Smith, Principal Machine Learning Engineer at The Very Group, spoke as part of the programme’s Big Data Management module.

- Cloud Computing and AWS
- Security and Data Governance
