Management Schools ends 20th anniversary celebrations at AOM 2023

The Management School culminates a year of celebrations to commemorate its 20th anniversary, with a drinks reception at the 83rd Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management (AOM) in Boston, Massachusetts.

Taking place on Saturday 5 August the reception, hosted at the Boston Hynes Convention Centre, welcomed over 100 academics from around the world and provided an exceptional opportunity for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and networking among thought leaders in the field of management.

The AOM Annual Meeting is the world's premier event for scholarly engagement in management and the largest gathering of management and organisation scholars in the world.

“This reception marks a fitting end to what has been a wonderful year, where we have had the opportunity to celebrate our students, our network, our city and our research”, said the Dean of the University of Liverpool Management School (ULMS), Professor Julia Balogun.

“During these 20 years, we have built the School consistent with our vision as a globally connected institution, advancing influential knowledge leadership through transformative research to better business and society.

“We look forward to continue working with like-minded colleagues from around the world to address some of the most pressing contemporary challenges to management and organisations.”

This year’s annual meeting attracted an expert audience of over 10,000 delegates who enjoyed the event in its hybrid format, allowing scholars to meet in person for the first time since COVID-19.

More than 20 academics from ULMS attended the event and participated in 21 professional development workshops, symposia and presentations on research connected to the conference's theme ‘Putting the Worker Front and Center’

As part of the School’s academic contribution Dr Magdalena Plesa’s paper ‘How Exogenous Shocks Affect the Management of Hybrid Tensions in Social Enterprises’ was included in annual meeting proceedings as one of this year’s best papers within the AOM Entrepreneurship Division.

In addition, Dr Samuel Horner received an award for Best Reviewer for the Technology and Innovation Management Division, and several other ULMS academics received awards for their contribution as members of editorial review boards, with AOM 2023 Publication Awards going to:

As well as hosting a drinks reception, the School, also sponsored the annual meeting’s tote bag and the sessions organised by AOM's 'Strategizing Activities and Practices', an open and inclusive community devoted to fostering research into the practice of strategy.
