University of Liverpool Management School recruits globally recognised professors
The University of Liverpool Management School has recently recruited a number of Professors who are outstanding academic leaders in their field.
The Director, Professor Julia Balogun, says “I am delighted to be welcoming so many talented individuals with established international profiles to the School. These appointments will help the School to advance its ambitions and reputation both nationally and internationally. The investment we are making in building our faculty represents significant support from the University and demonstrates the commitment the University has to the on-going development of ULMS.”
Amongst the new senior appointments to the School is Professor Tom Elfring, who will take up the role of Subject Group Head of Strategy, International Business and Entrepreneurship in May. His research interests include corporate entrepreneurship and venturing, networking in emerging organisations and strategic entrepreneurship. He has published over 60 international articles in journals and book chapters in Journals as well as seven books, including in the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing and Organization Studies, His book, Rethinking Strategy, has won the ERIM best book award. He received the Emerald Management Reviews Citations of Excellence Award 2012 for his article in the Academy of Management Journal, 2008.
Professor Gilly Salmon will be taking up the role of Associate Head of Online from September 2017. She has been a learning innovator for more than 30 years and a leading thinker in digital and blended learning. Her research looks at themes of innovation and change in Higher Education and the exploitation of new technologies of all kinds in the service of learning. Professor Salmon is internationally renowned for her significant contributions to the future for education, developing the ‘Carpe Diem Learning Design methodology’ which has transformed learning and teaching in universities around the world.
On joining the University of Liverpool, she says: “I’m delighted and privileged to take up the opportunity to work with the great colleagues at ULMS to advance and develop even more amazing student experiences in the future and help to put ULMS on the Learning Innovation map of the world”.
Professor Yves Guillaume has been appointed at Subject Group Head for Work, Organisation and Management and will take up the post from September. Yves's research revolves around the study of diversity, leadership, innovation, effectiveness and well-being in teams and organisations. His research has been published in leading academic publications, such as Academy of Management Journal, Leadership Quarterly and Journal of Organizational Behavior, and has been funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and industry.
Yves said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the University of Liverpool Management School and am excited to be taking on the role of Subject Group Head and Chair in Work, Organisation and Management.”
As well as these new appointments, a number of professors have already joined the School in the last 6 months. Professor of Organisation, Caroline Gatrell, joined the University of Liverpool Management School in October 2016. Caroline’s research centres on work, family and health from a socio-cultural perspective and is published in social science and organisation studies journals.
Charlie Cai, Professor of Finance, recently joined the School, taking up his post in January 2017. Charlie’s research career started from his PhD on the market microstructure of the London Stock Exchange, a research journey that taught him the foundations of financial markets and provided him with solid empirical modelling skills. Since then he has continued his research interest in examining the impact of technology on financial markets and big data analytics. He has also worked outside academia as a research consultant, and he is committed to building research links with other disciplines and academic institutions worldwide.
Most recently, Rory Donnelly joined ULMS as a Professor of Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour in February 2017. His research interests include: knowledge work; HRM/IHRM; changing work and career dynamics; diversity and inclusion; the employment relationship and comparative employment systems. He is also a member of the Academy of Management, the British Sociological Association and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
