Journalist and debut novelist Tabitha Lasley will be joined by Matt Hurst, to discuss the origins of her new book, Sea State, which explores the lives of North Sea oil riggers. ‘Offshore’ is a way of life for generations of British workers, primarily working-class men, but is also a potent metaphor for wider social issues we often fail to confront – identity, class, masculinity, the fragility of financial security and the transactional nature of desire. Sea State is a candid and personal account of the lives of those offshore oil workers, exploring issues of rootlessness and the search for home.
