LCCS Team at the library for world heart day

Liverpool Central Library was abuzz with activity as staff and students from our Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science (LCCS) and the Department of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine came together to mark World Heart Day alongside local NHS and charity partners.

On Friday 29 September a team from LCCS, led by Professor Deirdre Lane, took over the lobby of the city’s largest library and welcomed visitors for a free heart health MOT and the chance to learn about prevalent conditions such as high blood pressure and atrial fibrillation. Visitors were also provided with proper guidance on how to perform CPR if necessary, and lifestyle advice on how to maintain good heart health.

LCCS holds regular engagement events to raise awareness of Atrial Fibrillation, a potentially life-threatening cardiovascular condition increasingly prevalent particularly in the Merseyside region.

World Heart Day, organised by the World Heart Federation, was also marked locally by the ‘Lighting Up Liverpool’ initiative that saw landmarks across the city, including the University’s Engineering building, illuminated in red to raise awareness.
